Description
Peppersass was the first Cog Railway engine ever built, it was used to summit Mount Washington in the New Hampshire's, White Mountains. In 1861, Sylvester Marsh was granted a patent for a steam locomotive using a cogwheel to grip a center notched rail. On July 3, 1869, Peppersass became the first cog driven train to reach the summit of the 6,288 foot Mount Washington.
